More Blogging Awards

Is it just me (not receiving any) or has it been quiet on the awards front?

Anyhow, it is time for me to repay some debts (of gratitude, before you start getting ideas!!) for awards received in the past.

I am being lazy, I confess, and thanking all the award-givers “in one fell swoop”. As a result, thanks (for the award) and apologies (for lumping them together) at the same time to:

Mr. Mary of http://aspoonfulofsuga.wordpress.com/ for the Candle Lighter award. Actually I chose the award as he laid out a buffet and let nominees choose.

He says about my blog:

“His posts are as reflective as they are entertaining and informative at the same time which is an achievement Ankur will humbly deny. I look forward to his posts and maybe one day we can collaborate on something, I would be honored.”

Corngoblin of http://corngoblin.wordpress.com/ for the Sushine award.

He says about my blog:

https://darkofficehumour.wordpress.com/ writes humorous things, and has a book too. Lucky. I wish I had a book. Though I dont have one due to lack of trying. Maybe one day…”

Lopa of  http://lopascribes.wordpress.com/ for a bunch of awards. These are:

The Super Sweet Blogging award

The Kreative Blogger award

The Sushine award

She writes about my blog:

“I really like the way you write, the themes on which you write, and the brilliant satire that you add to your posts. I wish i had this insight!”

To respect nomination by two peers, I will follow the rules of the Sunshine award, which are:

  • Answer some questions about yourself
  • Nominate some of your favorite bloggers
  • Let them know that they have been nominated
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you

Answering the questions:

Love or Money?

Money, of course. Is there a choice? Talk about rhetorical questions…

High salary or job satisfaction?

Considering I left employment over a year back in search of “job satisfaction” which I am still searching for, it is definitely “High Salary”.

Favorite Book?

There are many, but a few which readily come to mind:

Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

The “Sudden” franchise by Oliver Strange

and, of course, my own “What happens in office, stays in office”

Television character that you simply adore?

Rahul Dravid, a cricket player, Lionel Messi (since Maradona is too old to play), football (soccer) player and Roger Federer, tennis player, since I mostly watch cricket, football and tennis on TV.

Favorite Music

Loosely classified as 80s rock, with names like Eagles, Pink Floyd, Phil Collins, Dire Straits, etc., and the music and songs of Indian musicians like S D Burman and Bhupen Hazarika.

Favorite type of movie

“People” movies with “people” characters and “people” emotions, as opposed to movies with aliens, vampires, monsters, bats, wizards, cartoon characters, mutants and generally things which make-up 99% of the stuff produced these days. Whatever happened to “people” movies?

List of Nominees:

I think I have been stingy with praise, unlike many other bloggers who never seem to tire of praising and liking other blogs. These nominations give me an opportunity to make partial amends. Nominees can pick-up the one they like from the various awards displayed above and follow the rules of that award. If in doubt, pick-up the Sunshine award and:

  • Answer some questions about yourself (like I have, above)
  • Nominate some of your favorite bloggers
  • Let them know that they have been nominated
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you

I have largely stuck to the straight and narrow path of the written word for the blogs that I follow and recommend. I would like to, however, deviate from that self-defined straight and narrow and begin the nominations by conferring this award on two photography based blogs I have recently been introduced to, run by two very old friends:

Rohin of http://rohin-arora.blogspot.in.

This is a NatGeo quality blog based on his many travels around the world. His pictures and comments smack of an honesty that comes from having no pressure to sell or impress.

Richa of http://www.photos-by-richa.com/.

She tests the limits of Black and White photography, with some pure B&W, some pretending to be B&W some trying hard to not be B&W. Beautiful (not necessarily pretty) pictures captured in a variety of milieus.

Emily of http://incurablycurious.com/.

Provides a new perspective on what I think we can only call “social etiquette”.

Surindernath of http://snatsleepwalkers.wordpress.com/.

If verbal calisthenics were an Olympic sport, he would get gold every time.

Metin of http://turkischland.wordpress.com/

Always interesting to know about lands and places one does not get to hear about very often.

Fromagreekangle of http://fromagreekangle.wordpress.com/

For similar reasons. Also, a chance to hear from “people” behind the headline news we get which always scream about “Erozone woes” and “Debt burden”.

Lifelessinthemiddle of  http://lifelessinthemiddle.com/.

As he says blithely, he does not know what the blog is about and wants readers to tell him if they can make out what it is about. Take a shot if you would like.

Raowords of http://raowords.wordpress.com/

The theme is often similar to mine, except that his posts seem more personal.

Thesandytongue of http://duhmerica.wordpress.com/

About everyone’s (at least in the rest of the world) favourite whipping boy (nation). Even better, racially insensitive and politically incorrect.

Jacqui Murray’s http://worddreams.wordpress.com/

Shares practical tips on writing. The kind of practical that makes sense.

  1. Always enjoyable to read. Thanks for the nomination, I feel honoured indeed. I liked your answers and you brought a smile to my face. We have a litttle sunshine in Athens today so it matches the mood. Keep well and keep making me smile!
